Diversify

So 2015 was a slow one? Looking for business success in 2016? If you haven’t got a great deal of products and they aren’t rewarding you, you made the critical mistake of not spreading your business big enough. Often we think we are have enough products and keep plugging away at the old ones. Sometimes you need to think outside what you are used to selling and look at new markets.

For example, if you are a car garage, why not offer something different to customers, like a full healthcheck to new customers who have joined your garage? Shows you want their business and can get you more business in future.

Diversification is not just suitable for small businesses. Even micro-businesses or service driven businesses need to diversify. Look at the marketplace and offer something new, is there something you could be doing that you feel more passionate about or that no one else is doing?

Go Online

goonline

If you want business success in 2016 you need to be looking at the ways customers access your website and online assets.

Whatever business you are in, if you aren’t going online with it you are leaving money on the table. It’s as simple as that. With the Governments pledge to invest even more into broadband and 4G taking off in the UK, now is the ideal time to get your business online.

A simple way to think about this is to look at where your customers are going to be congregating. It’s going to be the same usual suspects – Online message forums, Google Plus, Facebook and Twitter. These are going to be your 2016 winners for going online.

If you are a product based business you may want to look at something like Instagram, where you can showcase your products and how they help people directly – for example you may be a company selling gym equipment. Showing great results for your potential customers takes them one step closer to buying.

Changing your routine

For personal business success in 2016 you need to look at yourself more closely and see what changes you need to make to your day to make it more productive.

The thing is , this is a funny one – its more personal to you. You might be thinking, why is my accountant telling me to mess about with my routine? Quite a lot actually. If you are driven every single day, it will show in your business. If you are not driven you will most likely drive your business into the ground.

So what can you do? Change your routine up. Do something different in your business. Wake up earlier, do something that changes up the monotony of your business routine and aim to change it up every 6 months or so.

In this way you won’t get bored, and come your half yearly time to change you will want to maintain the momentum in your business. When we change our routine as human beings, we open our mind to new opportunities and think about these opportunities in a productive way, even if they are small.

Let’s say you are a really boring service provider like us…an accountant. Can’t get more boring than that right? Why not join a networking club near you like BNI, or just arrange a meetup with some other accountants in your area? If no one else is doing it, it doesn’t mean you can’t.
